From the President

Greetings again, Mustangers. As the year starts to wind down, we still have several important events and activities. Nomination and election of next year's club officers will take center stage in our October and November meetings. Should you-be interested in any of the elected offices, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice president, or President, please contact Ron Kay at 573-8587. Additionally, membership dues renewal date is November Ist per the updated bylaws. Please renew by that date to be eligible to vote in the elections.

WEBSITE INSIGHT

Wayne Smith deserves kudos for updating the website with pictures and stories about club events. He will scan your pictures for the website, and will return them to you. I encourage everyone to forward them to Wayne so he can update the site. If you happen to already have digitized photos, you could e-mail them to him as well.

CHRISTMAS PARTY UPDATE

Ron Kay volunteered to do the legwork for this year's Christmas Party. The date is December 2; cocktails and socializing will start at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m.

Location is: (TO BE DETERMINED) (Party was going to be at Tony Roma's, however they suddenly went out of business. Now there is a 3 Margaritas going in at 3956 North Academy Blvd.)

Activities will include a white elephant gift exchange. If you bring a child, please bring a toy for exchange amongst the munchkins.

WINTER IS TIME FOR CELEBRATION- NOT HIBERNATIONI

For our first winter activity, we will have a Garage Tour and Progressive Dinner. The date is November 4, and we will start at 11:00 a.m. with an appetizer at the first stop. After an hour and a half, or so, we will move on to the second stop where we will enjoy the main course. After a similar layover, we will proceed to the final destination for desserts. During the stops, the host should open up her garage for the motorheads in the club to tour. If you would like to host a stop, let me know at October's meeting, so we can set up the details.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

In September, we had an informal cruise to the Sonic on' 8th Street; you can read about it elsewhere in this newsletter. Club turnout was very good, and many members expressed interest in trying it again in October. Weather permitting, we will meet at the same location at 7:00 p.m. on October 26th. See ya there.

That's all for now. I'II be seeing you around the patch.

Bryan Lowry

September Sonic Cruise

On September 28th, several club members brought their ponies out to the first-ever End offSummer Cruise to Sonic. The club was well-represented by Ralph Theis, Paul with the Goatf(sorry, I can't recall your last name), Keith Duda, Stew i-larding, Wayne Smith, Ross Schwyhart,fKelly Bynum, the McKnires, Kays, Brescianis, Collins', Myers, Lindleys, Gardiners, and Lowrys. My apologies if I missed anyone, fne 16 cars ran the gamut from early cars to late models, hardtops, fastbacks, and convertibles. the parking lot had the look of a Mustang car show with 5.0 Liter, GT, SVO, Mach 1, Boss, Shelby, and even Pontiac GTO representation.

The weather cooperated wonderfully, and members, family, and friends enjoyed themselves, and many enjoyed the fine Sonic dinner fare. Several members expressed how much they enjoyed this event, so you can expect to see more of this type activity in the future.

The night's activities were capped off by tire adhesion testing on 8th Street as folks headed for home; fortunately, no one raised the ire of the local police. Wayne Smith brought along a digital camera, and he posted' the evening's pictures on the club web page.

Cruise Above the Clouds - Event Report

By: Wayne Smith

September 16, 2000 was the 9th annual Cruise Above the Clouds My first visit to this activity was, 5 years ago when it was just a poker run from Woodland Park and a very small show in Cripple Creek. This year however, things were much different! From my perspective, a better car day would be hard to find. The Cruise Above the Clouds Car Show & Poker Run is a charity event that is run by a team of volunteers. Again this years proceeds went to the Prospect Home Care-Hospice , Inc. The car show was an the grass at Kavanagh field in Woodland Park (I always prefer the grass venue). RMMC was represented by five cars - Check out our webpage at: http://www.mustangers.com to see just who was there. Due to the number of cars, we were all a little close - but it was still great. There were tons of door prizes ranging from baseball caps to free dinners. There were ever 30 awards and trophies, and lots of great oldies music. There was a charity auction with great stuff like custom jackets, antiques, and even a flamed mailbox. The car show started at 8am and the generous awards were distributed at 2pm. Then we were off for the Poker run to Cripple Creek. The ride to Cripple Creek was spectacular with all the aspens turning. Even those of us with a limited appreciation of color could appreciate the beauty and contrast around every curve We consumed all of Bennett Avenue with a great variety of automobiles The Poker Run had three winners - top two hands and worst hand - top winner walked away with over $ 1,000 ! The other two were rewarded very handsomely also - to the tune of a grand between them! Lots more door prizes were given away in Cripple Creek. The evening was topped off with an outdoor concert featuring the great 50's rock group Bill Haley's Comets! Warm up for the Comets included an Elvis impersonator and a great local band. Everyone was rocking with the oldies! We had beautiful weather, had great cars to admire, we parked in the grass, enjoyed great music, had a neat auction, there were fun door prizes, more great weather, a fun poker run, there were lots of prizes great live music and did I mention great Colorado weather. I would highly recommend this activity for your September 2001 calendar. But, learn from my mistake and USE SUN SCREEN !
