From the President

Hello again. I'm amazed at how rapidly time flies. Seems to me, I just finished writing my article for the last newsletter. I've hardly recovered from our cruise to Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy, and we're getting ready to get hot and heavy with spring and summer car activities. Look for Stew Harding's article on our April cruise elsewhere in the newsletter.

Thanks to Kelly Bynum's persistence, we are finally going to have our first meeting at Phil Long Ford, north store. On May 20, plan on arriving by 6:30 pm and park in the lot nearest the front door. The dealership has arranged for this lot to be open for our use. I'll make sure someone is near the front door to help everyone find the meeting room, which we'll be using. Muchas gracias, Kelly.

The Abbey show is rapidly approaching. We've been invited to meet the Mopar club at the Southgate Sears parking lot at 6:30 am on May 20th. I understand that the plan to get breakfast before rolling out of town. If you don't want to eat, we'll roll out of the parking lot at 8:00 am sharp. We're going to try to get our club cars parked together, preferably on the grass.

Hot Pueblo Nights is also coming up soon. The event is on June 9th and 0th, and has many activities. I'll have flyers at the May membership meeting for those who are interested.

The Roundup is rapidly approaching, and if you are attending, you should finish your plans soon. The host hotel and driving events are already full. By the way, Hap and Sara will need help manning the hospitality suite, so club members who are attending should pitch in a hand.

Our June meeting will be on the10th, so it doesn't conflict with the Roundup. In July, date yet to be determined, we plan to have another picnic at Bonn Park. The club will buy sandwiches, chips and drinks. Members should bring side dishes and desserts. We passed around a sign-up sheet for members who want to be on the call list for impromptu activities. If you did not get a chance to sign up, and would like to do so, please let any board member know. That's all for now. Drive courteously and keep the shiny side up.

After a long boring winter, the itch to break out the 'Stangs gets intense, so what's a guy to do? Order up a pretty day and go cruising !! That's just what happened a couple of Sundays ago. Discussions had been held with the Southern Colo Mustang Club about getting together and doing some "mustanging" together , and a plan to cruise the Colo Springs area followed by a Mustang birthday party was the cure for those winter-time blahs.

We met the Pueblo folks out at Pikes Peak Community College and assembled the caravan (some 20 mustangs!) and headed out to our first stop. The route took us through the Garden of The Gods, a stop at the Garden of The Gods Visitor center, out to the B-52 displayed at the Air Force, and down Marksheffel to Bryan's house. Along the way one of the late models from Pueblo had to pit for an overfull rear differential, but the Jiffy Lube guys got him going shortly. After many pictures at the overlook in Garden of Gods, we headed over to the Visitor Center and pulled right in to a get together of the Southern Colo Mopars! We all parked and it looked like a mini car show. After more pictures and bench racing, we took off for the B-52. Bob and Mike romped it pretty hard up the on ramp, but the traffic eliminated any real fun, so the boys had to mellow out.

The caravan arrived at the B-52 in force and many marveled at the spectacle of this giant war-bird and more pictures and bench racing ensued. Stew left early to set up a video camera out on Marksheffel to record the herd coming down the highway. The video came out great and we will show it sometime. Upon arrival at Bryan's house, pizza was ordered and volleyball net set up. He also wheeled out a special birthday cake commemorating the mustang birthday. 10 polished off pizzas and cake later, everyone was too tired and full to play volleyball, so we all hung out and admired the cars and checked out Brian's clutch project he had going on his 68 GT-350.

It started getting late and many of the Pueblo mustangers took off to get home before dark. Overall, I think everyone enjoyed themselves, as I heard several comments applauding this type of event and the Pueblo mustangers invited us down to their big show and open track event they have coming in May. I know I'm looking forward to more mustang fun this summer and I hope to see you all out there enjoying your ride and having some fun. See you on the road!

Stew

Mustangers do it to the AMCers !

(Well, at least some of us!)

In spite of being out numbered and plied with food the Rocky Mountain Mustangers once again bowled to victory over the Pikes Peak AMC Club. Dick Collins, Mike Spoelman and his daughter Samantha, Mary and Bob Goward, and your former fearful leader all gathered at Brunswick Circle Lanes for an afternoon of fun! The AMCers had a good showing out numbering the Mustangers almost 2 to 1. Thanks to all of you who participated. And a big thank you to the Pikes Peak AMC Club especially Jamie, who organized the event for another fun inter-club time. Look for an upcoming volleyball rematch!

Meet the Member

"Nothin', Hunny!" is how the husband replies to his wife in the cereal commercial on TV. That's sort of the way Kelly Bynum replied when I asked him about his Mustangs. He says they are nothing special. Kelly is single and has lived in Colorado Springs for 23 years and has been a member of the Rocky Mountain Mustangers for the last two years. He is the owner and president of Colorado Trim Systems Inc. Two '69 Sportsroofs and an '84 SVO, the first year of production, are in Kelly's herd. But that number could have changed since I gathered my information. Kelly has been seen lately in the company of the notorious horse trader Bob Provost who trades Mustangs as fast as some of us change our minds. One of the 69's is a Mach I with a 428 CJ-R and other sportsroof has a 351. Both of them have automatics, the CJ a C6 and the 351 and FMX. For driving using both feet Kelly can row through the SVO's 5 speed. If you would like to be featured in an upcoming "Meet the Member" see me at the meeting for a questionnaire or email me zoe@pcisys.net and I will email a form so you can fill it out. Please help me out and let fellow members get to know you better. Thank you.…Ross
