1999 Club Car Clash Final Results

by Hap Schadler
The Rocky Mountain Mustangers again won the Club Car Clash season trophy by a score of 116 points to runner up Denver Mustang Clubs 44 points. The individual driver championship went down to the last event at Monument High school on October 10 where RMM's Glen Outcalt finished third in his 1985 unlimited class Mustang with an event total of 967 points. This was a good enough showing for Glen to give him the individual driver's championship by two points with a 4798 total over the season's best five out of eight events. The Monument event was well attended by the Mustangers and represented Neil Case's best outing of the year when he finished second just with a strong 996 point showing. Next year should be even better. First event of the Clash will be at the Southern Colorado Mustang Clubs Pueblo show. Final Club and Driver standings

Ross's Rants and Raves

By Ross Shwyhart

As the garage door rattled closed last Saturday I realized that almost another year had gone by. Whew, how time flies! For me this year has been fun. The Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup and the 20th International Mustang Meet were definite high lights of the season. I hope that you have had fun this year as well. I think that some the club events were new and little different than in other years and I hope that those of you who participated in them had fun. We had less than stellar weather for the club swap meet but everybody that attended agreed that we ought to do it again next year. Late spring or summer might be a good time so we can have good weather and maybe get some cars out to show along with the goodies for sale. One club member even volunteered to have a cookout at their house after next year's swap meet! I'm sure had the sun been out this year there would have been many more parts out for us the look at. God did smile fondly on us for the trip to the Shelby Museum on November 6th. We had real top down weather and no major problems on I25. As usual the museum was like going to Ford Mecca. It was neat to see an "as raced 289 Cobra" and see how they really were raced and not how some one sees them as restored racers. Heck, the bucket seats didn't even match! It looked as if the rules stated "entries must be 2 passenger motor cars" so the Shelby team used what was on hand. Who cares if they match! The object was to win races not look pretty! After a short trip to Golden and a bite to eat we descended upon Foss's Drug store. The selection of die cast cars and auto memorabilia is first rate. Several dollars later we headed home. As you know Bob Goward and I are always on the look out for late model fox parts. I can tell that I am getting really bad about this when I start sizing up the Mustang next to me at a traffic light to see if it is a potential parts car. I love traipsing through junkyards. With that in mind I am including a list of yards in Colorado that I got from a book put out by Cars and Parts. I can only attest to the 'goodness' of 2 of the yards Martin Auto Parts and West 29th Auto Inc. but I think the list is nice to have. If you have any feedback on the other yards please let the club know. The Christmas party is on December 11 at 6 p.m. at Tony Roma's so I am including the menu so you can be deciding what you want to have. The club will be subsidizing the meal price. The club provides five dollars per member up to fifteen dollars for a family. Don't forget we will be having our annual 'gift' exchange. So put your imagination to work and come up with that great gag gift! Dick and Debbie Collins have been working to get the candidates lined up for next year's club officers. We should have a list of name at this month's meeting. It is also getting close to time for joining for the year 2000 so I am also enclosing next year's membership form. Please fill in all the requested information so we can add birthdays etc. to next year's newsletter. Email addresses are also nice so we can get information to you that way. The club membership list is not given out without member's knowledge so please help us make our membership list better for the benefit of all the club members. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting or on the road.............. Ross

SALEEN/ALLEN "RRR" SPEEDLAB FINISHES GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY DESPITE ELECTRICAL DIFFICULTY

Irvine, CA -- The Saleen/Allen "RRR" Speedlab finished the Grand Prix of Monterey despite having several minor electrical gremlins that hampered the teams' excellent showing. Starting from the fifth position on the grid, Terry Borcheller made an excellent start and by the end of the first lap was pushing the Corvette of Ron Fellows for third position. However a bad throttle position sensor forced the car in for an early pit stop. Ron Johnson entered the car and was holding an excellent pace on circuit until the cam position sensor failed on circuit rendering the car inoperable. The crew went out to where the car was parked, directly in front of the Saleen Hospitality trailer, and Ron changed the sensor on the side of the track and then was able to get the car back to the pits. Terry re-entered the car for the finish of the race and finished in the seventh position. Terry's times at the end of the race were quicker than all but the Vipers.
