Bowling Results

Last month we finished our spirited bowling match with the AMC club.

The final bowling match gave us the best 2 out of 3. The score was RMM 403 to PPAMC 339. We collected $78 in fun money. Thanks to all of you who came out for this fun way to kill some time in the dead of winter. There is already talk of a rematch this fall.

I would like to thank Jamie Barilli who bailed out your president by collecting everybody’s scores and doing all the math. Thanks Jamie!!

Ross’s Rants and Raves

By Ross Shwyhart

April. hummm… I need something for the newsletter. Think, think think! Blank screen.... fingers drumming, head scratching, foot tapping. Oh no!!! Writers block! Come on you need something! Let’s see. I can write about the Mustang’s 35th birthday. Now what to write about.? I know. Some music will help get the creative juices flowing.

I’ve got lots to choose from. How ‘bout some Beach Boys? The Beatles, The Supremes, The English groups. Petula Clark. Nope. Well maybe some Jackson 5 or Simon & Grafunkel’s "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". Some disco!? Bee Gees. Nah! Not the 70’s OK the 80’s Hewy Lewis, Tears of Fears, Asia, Elton John. Culture Club, J. Geils Band. Air Supply! The 90’s Hum. Alanis Morissette, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Match Box 20, Celine Dion "My Heart Will go On" That’s a song appropriate for Mustangs. Nope then I’ll start thinking about the movie. That’s it a move! It’ll take my mind off the blank screen then the words will flow like a never ending river.

OK, down stairs and open up the tape cabinet. Bullitt! What could be better? Steve McQueen and that nasty sounding 390 fastback chasing the bad guys in the Charger through San Francisco. What a rush! Or Red Line 7000 some good vintage Shelbys in that one. Not mention a Cobra Dayton coupe on the street plus some other Fords. A Man & A Woman the broad sliding on the beach in the GT is good for the soul, shows the free sprit side of Mustangs. But what about what the salt is doing to the Mustang! Bad idea. Well the TV is already fired up. So I’ll watch a little bit.

The news. "War! What’s it good for? Absolutely nothing!" A line from some long lost song of the 60’s but that’s what on CNN. The Mustang saw us through a couple of them. Not to mention the sexual revolution, some race riots, a walk on the moon! An energy crisis........this is to depressing. I’ll surf for awhile.

VH1 - rock stars on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors. Next. Flipper, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Flip Wilson Show, Charlie’s Angels. Dynasty, Dallas, Family Ties, Roseanne. Nope. Time for a commercial. Win the ultimate garage with all the trimmings and a Mustang convertible! Mustangs. They show up every where. Even in ads for medicines to help with prostrate problems!? Yikes! Does this mean that the baby boomers are getting older!

OK, that didn’t help. What can I write about? I could tell about how I remember the first Mustang in Canon City. Boring! How I bought my first Mustang. To personal. All the good friends I have made and good times that I’ve had doing Mustang things. Everybody knows that Mustangs and good times go together, except when you are trying to figure out how the @#$%^ thing goes together or why it doesn’t run!

How does Tom Clancy do it!? Seems like he comes out with a bazillion page book about every 15 minutes and I can’t even think up enough stuff for a 1 page newsletter article. This writtin’ stuff ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. I gotta come up with something or Richard will be running the 2 remaining T-bird installments just to fill the newsletter! (Hey, Hey, Hey… I used the back of the ads page… watch it)

Thirty-five years! How I can I write something about a car that covered that much time? Man, from Holley carbs to fuel injection. AM radio to MACH 460 cd sound systems. From the largest to the smallest size Mustangs in one decade! 260 to 4.6 Liter. Where do I start? OK so I’ll finish first.

In 1994 at the Roundup on June 18 in Frisco I was checking out all the Mustangs. ‘94 was the 30th anniversary of the pony in case you forgot. Walking along the early cars I noticed a Rangoon red convertible with white interior. It was decorated with ribbons and balloons. I walked over curious as to why somebody would choose to have all that stuff on the car in a show.

As I got closer I could see that this pony was not a trailer queen. It was a nice car. One that you could tell was loved but driven. The paint had a few nicks and the seats had wear marks and a few marks that just won’t come off. This was a Mustang that somebody loved and used!

Looking at the engine compartment I saw a great big birthday cake perched on the air cleaner cover. A big sign said Happy Birthday! June 18 was the car’s build date. What a GREAT way for a Mustang to spend its birthday!

I think that story about covers how we feel about our ponies. What other car inspires that kind of outpouring of emotion. Mention fun and car in the same sentence and most people think Mustang!

Happy 35th Birthday Mustang! Thanks for all the fun you have given us!......................

Odds & Ends . . .

I will have the nametags at the meeting for those of you who ordered them. The price $3.50. If you still need one give me your name and I’ll place another order.

There are still some new Roundup shirts left. Please buy them so I don’t have to carry them back to Denver. Speaking of the Roundup. We will have a great band to go with the great food at Friday night’s

BBQ. The Fabulous ThunderBirds! We are well ahead of last year on the number of cars entered. If you haven’t sent in your registration better hurry!

I will also have entry forms for the Pueblo show in May. I would really like see us have a good showing there. We will be meeting at the Ray Nixon power plant at 8 am to go down to the show on May 8th. Also we will be meeting at Sears Southgate at 7:30 on May 22nd to go to the Abbey show. Please make plans to do one or better still both shows!

Still to come. In June the Roundup and one other club event. July the inter-car club cruise to the drive in movie in Denver. But wait there’s more............a cruise to the Royal Gorge, All Ford Day, a night at the races in Pueblo, The Good Guys Car show in September, the Shelby museum in Boulder, plus a couple of poker rallies one in Denver and one in the Springs. Whew....Funstuff! And you just thought I sat around and tried to grow hair!
